The Scrosoppi Sorgsentrum was established in 2006 to provide a safe haven and place of assistance for the children and youth of the township who live and grow up in an environment where poverty, malnutrition, dysfunctional family life, crime, violence, gangsterism, alcohol and drug abuse and juvenile delinquency are prevalent and the spectre of AIDS a growing reality.
We aim to assist them in whatever practical way we can and address whatever their particular needs are in order for them to break free from the bondage of their circumstances, finish school, live healthy lives, realize their potential and acquire the necessary skills to become responsible, productive adults who will contribute in a positive way to the development of our society.

There was no infrastructure of any kind. The Oratorians bought an old factory adjacent to this piece of ground and moved in and started with the development of the land. In 2007 the development of the Scrosoppi Sorgsentrum was formally started.

There comes a stage in the downward path of certain of our neighbours at which point, they literally can no longer help themselves. At that point someone has to step in and give them a lift; that is what the Huis van Barmhartigheid does. Besides offering temporary shelter to those in need, we will work to offer rehabilitation opportunities, social welfare services, family reunification services, physical care and support to those living on the streets who are committed to reintegration.
The Huis van Barmhartigheid is also the hub for the daily adult soup kitchen feeding scheme, the clothes bank and the Koffie & Klets kiosk and bakery.

We hold firmly to the believe that a childhood that is rich in artistic and cultural activities is an important key to making sure that children have the best foundation for developing personal attitudes and values for the rest of their lives.
The skills children learn through aesthetic activities are crucial for their development because all other learning is based upon them – in particular, the very desire to learn something new. At the same time, artistic activities enhance children’s well-being and the joy they take in being at the Scrosoppi Sorgsentrum every day.
The Scrosoppi Sorgsentrum is both a Registered Public Benefit Organisation No. 930010043 as well as a NonProfit Organisation No. 075-721-NPO
