There comes a stage in the downward path of certain of our neighbours at which point, they literally can no longer help themselves. At that point someone has to step in and give them a lift; that is what DIE HUIS VAN BARMHARTIGHEID, being established as you read this, will do.
Besides offering temporary shelter to those in need, we will work to offer rehabilitation opportunities, social welfare services, family reunification services, physical care and support to those living on the streets who are committed to reintegration.
Huis Betanië is a component of the Scrosoppi Sorgsentrum ™ under the administration and care of the Sisters of Providence. Huis Betanië is classified as an Early Childhood Development service (ECD) intended to promote early childhood development (up to school-going age) through care provided on a regular basis by a person, other than a child’s parents or caregiver. These include ihome visiting programmes, playgroups, toy libraries and space based ECD programmes.
At the Scrosoppi Sorgsentrum ™ we obviously need to be as self-sustainable as possible. Hence our gardens, which is one of the most important and effective sustainability practices that we can follow. Its practice and benefits include respecting, and improving the soils, using native plants, shrubs and trees to create beautiful landscapes, feeding our extended "family" fresh, organically-grown fruit and vegetables and utilizing every renewable resource that nature provides, from rain water to gravel.
